HASEF

is a continuation of my exploration of race; categorizations, relations, and politics. Based off the concept of “mixed race” ethnicity, I further wanted to explore the ideas behind “mixing” in terms of ethnic and race categorizations. By using coffee and cream as a stand in for skin color, I am able to abstract the concept to allow ambiguity in the viewer’s mind. The film is shot as a portrait in order to personify the inanimate nature of the materials while maintaining a video and sound quality associated with television commercials. 2014
